El Scoop semanal del colegio Glen Haven Elementary ha VUELTO! Si recién comenzó usted a recibir noticias de este servicio, bienvenidos a la comunidad en Internet de la Asociación de padres y maestros (PTA). Unas notas sobre el colegio

A few housekeeping items

Bell Times Have Changed: In case you missed it (ICYMI) – last year the MoCo school system changed school start/finish times in order to provide high school students with a bit more sleep. New School Hours: 9:25 a.m. – 3:50 p.m. Students may enter the building at 9:05 a.m. (school wide breakfast is available at this time) and students will be dismissed at 3:50 p.m. The Crossing Guard located at the front of the school will be on post from 8:55 a.m. – 9:25 a.m. and then in the afternoon from 3:45 p.m. – 4:15 p.m.

Please join your local PTA members in welcoming in a new year at Glen Haven Elementary. Meet your PTA Executive Board and learn how you can help the PTA.   You will also learn how the PTA can help all of our children at Glen Haven. We look forward to seeing all members of the community, new and returning. Remember to come early for Pizza. And as always childcare will be provided. See you there!

Glen Haven Open House 8/28 1pm – 3pm

Make sure to come to the Glen Haven Open House and get a feel for where your child learns and who they are learning from. Meet our Principal Dr. Jane Ennis and make sure to stop by our PTA table and become a member for the 2015-2016 school year. See you there! Harvest for the Hungry: Kids Helping Kids

SECU Bank commends our participation in the Harvest for the Hungry: Kids Helping Kids. They understand the value of strong communities for everyone’s benefit. That is why, along with financial education, SECU is equally committed to social causes that enhance the well-being of individuals and communities across the state of Maryland. SECU is proud to continue their tradition of supporting such causes with a fun Facebook campaign to bolster school spirit while raising money for the Kids Helping Kids campaign at the same time.

It’s easy as one-two-three! Here’s how it works:

1.            Visit SECU Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/secuMD) anytime from Monday, October 13, 2014 through Friday, October 31, 2014.

2.            Like the page and click on the Kids Helping Kids Food Drive box to write in your favorite school.

3.            SECU donates $2 for every like to the school’s county to go towards the Kids Helping Kids campaign.

That’s it! Well, almost… there’s a bonus! The top voted school will receive a $500 donation, to be used as the school sees fit.  Please help Glen Haven Elementary receive $500.

 

Kids Helping Kids Food Drive

This year, Glen Haven Elementary School will be participating in the Kids Helping Kids Food Drive.  Beginning on Monday, October 13, 2014 and running through Friday, October 31, 2014 we will be collecting food to help families that reside in Montgomery County.  There will be a box located in the school lobby, so please donate any non-perishable foods that you may have during this time.  This is a great way to model citizenship, compassion, and fairness.  Below is a list of the most needed items.  Thank you for helping to fight hunger in Montgomery County.

Most Needed items:

Canned proteins (tuna, chicken, peanut butter, beans, etc.)

Pasta and rice

Canned vegetables

Canned fruit and juices

Breakfast items (oatmeal, grits, etc.)

Soups and stews

Dairy (infant formula, shelf-stable milk, etc.)

Send in those Box Tops!

Box Tops for Education can bring money to our school.  Each box top is worth 10 cents and a completed form can be worth up to $5.00.  Clip the pink label off specially marked products and send them to school with your child on Wednesdays (back-pack day.)  It will help us submit the Box Tops faster if you print out one of the sheets below and attach your Box Tops.  The first submission date is in October.  Let’s try to raise $500 this fall!  Visit www.btfe.com to follow how much we’ve raised.
